As we begin a new year we leave behind a year of turmoil and sadness.

Nations continue to establish their own supremacy and the news each day tells of more unexpected tragedies and changes to the world order which we have never seen before. Nothing seems stable.

Besides this we also have our own problems, in our communities where we live and also personal difficulties. We wonder what will happen next.

Some of us make New Year resolutions or promises to ourselves and others about how we will live our lives in the coming weeks and months.

Christadelphians are almost unique in placing their complete and absolute trust in the Bible, recognising it as the inspired or ‘God breathed’ word of God, written so that people can understand God’s plan and His promises for this world.

We can understand why the Bible seems irrelevant to many people. Bible "stories" are often told to children, for their interesting and entertaining content and where they have an underlying message to teach about human relationships and acceptable behaviours/morals. They are read as single stories, often in isolation from each other.

As adults, consequently, understanding the relevance of reading all of the Bible as a whole is difficult to see but it is essential for knowing all about it and what God wants us to do about it.

The Bible tells of promises made to Abraham (that he would have descendants more than the sand on the sea shore and a country for them all to live in, in the future) - so this will come to pass as other events which were promised in the Bible have already done so.

Multiple verses throughout the Bible foretell/promise (prophesy) about the future for people who believe in God, who have followed and believed in Jesus as the Son of God, by the route God has planned out, as detailed in the Bible.

Promises are also made about what will happen to the key city of Jerusalem. This city has been foretold to be the future HeadQuarters for the rule of God with the resurrected Jesus Christ as the future King of the world.

Jesus instructs us to “seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness”. God promises us the wonderful hope of living forever - no corruption, mortality, fear, starvation, illness or sadness in His coming kingdom if we read his life planner - the Bible to understand the process, to believe, do what he wants us to do - be baptised and try to live our lives as God wishes us to.

By reading the Bible, we can know what will happen in the end. God is in control of this earth. In this certainty our daily life challenges are made more manageable and we can go to God in prayer about it all.
