Why do we spend time with certain other people - what connects us?

We may be connected by where we live – the community we are part of. Going to school together, working together. Walking our dog in the same park or enjoying the same hobbies, be that sport, walking, fishing, sewing or other interests.

Friendships and church related Fellowship is dependent up

on having a common belief and understanding of principles found in the pages of the Bible. We cannot have fellowship with one another and with God and His son, Jesus Christ unless we share those common beliefs.

There are several ways to improve our service to God through Christ, which we can achieve independently, but I would like to highlight the assistance and need of fellowship. Many years back, a speaker informed those in his audience, that under normal circumstances, most of us would not be included as his friends. What changed this situation radically, was our common faith in God, the Lord Jesus Christ, and the kingdom to come. Obviously, our mutual feelings toward each other vary still.

We read from John 13:34-35: "A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another, as I have loved you, that you also love one another". But there is something further that is also relevant, "By this shall all know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another." In other words, our loving attitude to one another should be recognisable to others.

Fellowship is not a very common word in the Bible, being used only about a dozen times but "agape" love, the noun, and "agapao", the verb, are. But the instruction is very positive. "Truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ." 1 John 1:3.

We are very familiar with the first and greatest commandment as identified by the Lord Jesus. We must demonstrate our love of God by being obedient to His commandments.

Ours should be an active faith doing as Jesus instructed us. "Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness."

Would you like to know more about us and what we believe?

Do get in touch.
